Grandmasters

This is a very unique series of oil paintings on board.

These are double works that show two sides of painting, abstraction and figuration. The figurative paintings are interpretations of works by great masters of painting made in 2021, while the abstract works were painted by Villarán in 2002. In this way, a dialogue is generated between the old and the new from the perspective of the same painter. The versatility and mastery of the classical authors turn their backs on each other even though they belong to the same medium.
